Episode Summary: In this episode of The Affirming Minds Podcast, Shaina continues the deep dive into the complex topic of professional burnout. Building on the foundations laid in Episode 1, Shaina focuses on practical strategies grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). She explores how these powerful frameworks can be used to develop burnout resiliency, helping both clinicians and their clients move past burnout into a place of greater fulfillment and engagement.

Listeners will be introduced to the first 3 steps in Shaina’s Beyond Burnout Blueprint: creating a compelling vision, welcoming the unwanted and watching your words as burnout buffer. This strategy helps clinicians and clients alike imagine a future that is grounded in values while bolstering their  resilience and growth. Shaina highlights key tools such as cognitive defusion, willingness, and compassionate imagery, offering evidence-based techniques that can transform how we relate to stress and burnout.

What You’ll Learn: • Demonstrate the ability to apply at least 1 cognitive defusion technique in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients observe their burnout-related thoughts without becoming entangled in them. • Analyze the role of experiential avoidance in the development and maintenance of burnout and utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) interventions to foster client willingness to engage with difficult emotions. • Utilize at least Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) interventions, such as compassionate imagery and language reframing, to help clients reduce self-criticism and activate the soothing system in burnout recovery.
